Purpose-built AI: Work faster in the tools you already use

When AI lives in its own separate tool, every insight comes with a context switch, and the “AI tool” quietly becomes its own workflow, competing with the work it was supposed to make easier. 

Buyers have figured this out. In Alchemer’s March Brand Tracker Study, 43% of CX, marketing, operations, and research teams said the thing they most want from AI is to move faster within the tools they already use. Notice they didn’t ask for more AI. They asked to stop switching between systems to get a straight answer.

AI should be an extension of your team  

As Ryan Tamminga, Alchemer’s Chief Customer Officer, put it in our recent webinar, the goal is to be a workforce multiplier. He has a favorite way of describing it: “Tony Stark’s great, but you put him in the Iron Man suit and he’s Iron Man.” His take on extending human expertise? “Putting Iron Man suits on all of our customers.” 

The way you do that isn’t by handing people another standalone tool. It’s by building the AI into the systems they already work in. “Building and buying more capabilities within the products that you already use is really valuable,” Tamminga said, “because again, it becomes that workforce multiplier.” 

Two capabilities make this concrete: 

AI Smart Question  

AI Smart Question turns a flat survey into something closer to a conversation. As a respondent answers, the AI reads what they said, interprets it, and writes a relevant follow-up in real time. Someone rates your service a nine and adds “the service was great.” On its own, that’s nice to hear and hard to use. As Tamminga noted, “It would be great if we can know one more level of detail deeper to understand, like what about the service was great? Was it the people? Was it the speed?” AI Smart Question asks exactly that, capturing the detail you’d otherwise miss without making the survey longer. 

Bo Bandy, Alchemer’s CMO, summed up the difference from the respondent’s side: “I’m going to tell you something in that text box after the NPS and the next question I’m going to see is actually related to what I just told you.” The customer tells you what they actually wanted to say, not what you guessed in advance. 

AI-assisted survey building  

AI-assisted survey building puts Alchemer’s decades of survey methodology to work on your first draft. Becoming a great survey builder normally means learning question types, audience targeting, distribution, fielding, and how to phrase things without leading the respondent. “There’s a lot of complexity to that,” Tamminga said, calling the survey build “the hardest part of collecting data sometimes.” AI-assisted building suggests questions based on your use case, structures the survey for clarity and completion, and applies the patterns that drive higher-quality responses, so you spend your time analyzing data instead of building the instrument to capture it. 

What changes when you can move faster in the tools you already use?  

Less tool-switching. Faster setup. Better data flowing into everything downstream, because the quality starts at collection. And critically, none of this asks your team to become AI experts. The expertise is built into the product instead of living in someone’s head, so a new analyst gets the same leverage as a tenured one.
